Wholesale Flowers Maryland – 6 Things You Probably Don’t Know About MD

At Schaefer Wholesale Florist, your leading wholesale florist in mid-Atlantic region, you, and your order, are our highest priority.

Maryland is one of the states that SWF personally delivers to, and to keep things light and fun, here is a list of 6 things you probably didn’t know about Maryland:

1.Maryland is commonly referred to as “America in Miniature”.

Also, it’s sometimes referred to as “Little America” - because it’s home to some of the most diverse topography. Featuring all kinds of terrains from mountains and farmland to beaches and sand dunes, Maryland enjoys all four seasons.

2.Maryland’s claim to football fame was inspired by poetry.

The Baltimore Ravens got their name after the mythical bird in Edgar Allan Poe’s well-known poem, The Raven. The famous writer was originally from Baltimore, MD.

3.The official flag of Maryland is the only US state flag based on English heraldry.

As one of the most distinctive state flags in the union, the black and gold, red and white quartered flag is also one of only four state flags that does not contain the color blue.

4.The first school in the United States was Kings Williams School, opened in 1696 in Maryland.

It was chartered as a college in 1784, making it one of the oldest colleges in the country. Today, it is a private liberal arts school, St. John’s College.

5.Maryland is one of two states, along with Delaware, which gave up some of its land to help form the nation’s capital of Washington, D.C in 1790.

6.Maryland is the national leader in the production of blue crabs and soft clams.

Local seafood specialties, such as crabs, are famously doused with lots of Old Bay or Chesapeake Bay seasonings.

We hope you enjoyed this little bit of trivia for the beautiful state of Maryland!
